The Guyana Cricket Board/Tropical Spring T20 Over 40 Tournament continued on Sunday (November 22) with some exciting matches at venues in Demerara and Berbice.
Berbice
At the Jai Hind ground in Berbice, Jai Hind Masters who faced Sarjoo Tigers, batted first and posted a competitive score of 154 for 7 off their allotted 20 overs. Opening batsman Subramani Mangal blazed 36, a knock which included 3 fours and a six. He received solid support from number three batsman Kemraj Sumair who was also aggressive, hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes in his score of 29, while middle order batsman Zahir Moakan adopted a similar approach in his contribution of 18, which included a six and a four. Bowling for Sarjoo Tigers, David Perreira was the pick of the bowlers with 2-19 from 3 overs. Mark Ferreira, Tagenarine Ramroop and Rohan Sarjoo each picked up a wicket.
In reply, opening batsman Surendra Hiralall gave his team Sarjoo Tigers a glimmer of hope, with a composed 33, an innings which included 2 fours and 2 sixes. However, the only other major contribution with the bat in the Sarjoo Tigers’ tame total of 117, came from the consistent Tagenarine Ramroop, who stroked a polish 39, which included a four and three sixes. Bowling for Jai Hind, Rafeek Kassim returned amazing figures of 2 for 2 from 2 overs, while all-rounder Subramani Mangal claimed 2 for 8 from his allotted 3 overs. Jai Hind won the match by 38 runs.
In the second match at the same venue, General Marine Masters faced West Berbice, won the toss and elected to bat. They posted a paltry 91 for 9 off their allotted 20 overs. Daiaram Hemraj top scored with 23, a knock which included 2 fours, while middle order batsman Mustak Shaw stroked 18, inclusive of 2 fours.
Bowling for West Berbice, Rajban Hemraj was excellent with figures of 4 for 8 from his allotted 3 overs.
In reply, West Berbice cleverly paced their way to victory, reaching 92 for 4 off 16 overs to win by six wickets. Number 3 batsman Jaipaul Hiralall hit a pugnacious 44,not out, an innings which included a four and 4 sixes. Rajban Hemraj supported well with his contribution of 11. Bowling for General Marine, Hemchan Persaud had excellent returns with 2 for 6 from his allotted 3 overs.
Demerara
The first game of the day in Demerara, slated for 13:45 hrs, was interrupted by intermittent rainfall, reducing the overs from 20 to 15 per side. Winning the toss and electing to bat, Bel-Air Rubis Utra Tec were restricted by West Demerara Masters to a meager 78-9 in their allotted 15 overs.
Richard Rambarran top scored for his team with 18, while Nadir Baksh added 11 with Nirmaldeo Sarwan and Shaun Messiah both making 10.
Mohamed Abit Haniff spearheaded West Demerara’s bowling with economical figures of 2 for 5 off his 2 Overs.
In reply, West Demerara Masters reached their target in the 13th over, with 7 wickets to spare. Key to WD Masters’ victory was Ramesh Thakur (19) and Sudesh (18) both of whom fell prey to Authur Duke (2-16). However, Chabiraj Ramcharran and Patrick Khan remained unbeaten on 17 each to lead their team to a 7-wicket victory.
Over at the Enmore Community Centre ground, West Demerara Mavericks emerged winners over KV Construction by virtue of a ‘Walk Over’, whereas both matches at the Everest ground were abandoned due to heavy rainfall.
The tournament continues on Tuesday (November 24), with matches in Demerara. The first match at the Enmore Community Centre will begin at 09:30 hrs where West Demerara Mavericks will compete against West Demerara Masters, while the afternoon game will see RP Construction Legends versus Everest Masters.
At the Everest Cricket club ground, Bel-Air Rubis Ultra Tec will battle Regal Masters in the morning encounter which begins at 09:30 hrs, while at 13:45 hrs, KV Construction Masters will face Sand Pipper Masters.
